Precautions
It is especially important that your health care professional knows if you are taking any of the following:
- Anticholinergics (medicine for abdominal or stomach spasms or cramps)¡XSide effe
ts, such as dryness of mouth, of Claritin or anticholinergics may be more likely to occur
- Central nervous system (CNS) depressants (medicines that cause drowsiness)¡XEffects, such as drowsiness
of CNS depressants or Claritin may be worsened; also, taking maprotiline or tricyclic antidepressants may cause some side effects of either of these medicines, such as dryness of mouth, to become mor
e severe
- Ketoconazole (e.g., Nizoral)¡XUse of these medicines with fexofenadine may cause an increased amount of fexofenadine in the blood.

What side effects may occur?
Although side effects from Claritin are not common, they can occur. You may have discolored urine; this effect is harmless. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- headache
- dry mouth, nose, and throat
- drowsiness
If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
- rapid heartbeat
- diffic
ulty urinating
- vision problems
- dizziness
- muscle weakness

Why is this medication prescribed?
Although this use is not included in product labeling, cetirizine and loratadine are used in certain patients with asthma together with asthma medicines. The antihistamine is used before and during ex
posure to substances that cause reactions, to prevent or reduce bronchospasm (wheezing or difficulty in breathing).
Cyproheptadine is used as an appetite stimulant, in adults and children
Cyproheptadine is used for treatment of vascular headaches.

How should you take this medication?
When taken at the recommended dose, once a day CLARITIN does not cause drowsiness which is common with all over-the-counter and some prescription antihistamines. (Drowsiness rates vary among products.
) All antihistamines that cause drowsiness must caution users about operating motor vehicles or heavy machinery. CLARITIN, on the other hand, is not required to carry such warnings.

Special warnings about this medication
Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially:
- Enlarged prostate or
- Urinary tract blockage or difficult urination¡XClaritin may make urinary problems
orse
- Glaucoma¡XThese medicines may cause a slight increase in inner eye pressure that may make the condition worse
- Intestinal obstruction or
- Stomach ulcer¡XUse of cyproheptadine
make these conditions worse.
- Liver disease or
- Kidney disease¡XEffects of desloratadine may be increased because of slower removal from the body.

Symptoms of overdose may include:
Clumsiness or unsteadiness; convulsions (seizures); drowsiness (severe); dryness of mouth, nose, or throat (severe); feeling faint; flushing or redness of face; hallucinations (seeing, hearing,
or feeling things that are not there); shortness of breath or troubled breathing ; trouble in sleeping
